The jury began deliberating this afternoon in the case of Negii Coffee, accused of killing 33-year-old John Bruno in a 2004 shooting inside New York Fried Chicken on Market Street in Harrisburg.
Coffee, 39, of Harrisburg, has been on trial in front of Judge John F. Cherry since August 10.
*Defense Attorney Justin McShane said in a 75-minute closing argument today that “the investigation by the government was inadequate and incomplete.”*
Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo said Coffee was proved to be in possession of the murder weapon during the “critical period.”
*McShane said Coffee would be a “moron of biblical proportions” if he kept the gun that could tie him to the shooting.*
Chardo said that Coffee, an admitted drug dealer, kept the gun because he believed it necessary for dealing drugs, and couldn’t buy his own.
“He wasn’t going to get rid of it because he believed he needed it,” Chardo said.
After leaving the courthouse tonight, the jury is expected to continue deliberations Tuesday morning.
