According to Peter Grinspoon, a primary care physician at Harvard Medical School who specializes in medical marijuana, Delta-8 THC “has game-changing potential for patients”. Delta-9 THC is the main chemical compound in cannabis while Delta-8 THC is also present in cannabis but in a much more scarce quantity.
While it has not been tested and verified by science, Delta-8 is a trendy variant that has his the market in vapes, gummies and even soft drinks. Delta-8 is a compound that is created by cannabis plants but is much less abundant than Delta-9 and CBD. Therefore, it requires a lot of processing to get a usable amount. Delta-8 is about half as potent as Delta-9 according to researchers.
Anecdotally, many claim that Delta-8 provides many of the benefits of THC without the anxiety or paranoia some feel when they are high.
“I think it’s been shown that there’s a difference,” says Grinspoon, who is also a board member of the advocacy group Doctors For Cannabis Regulation. “People report [Delta-8] as being less anxiety-provoking, less sedating and a little more clear-headed than THC.”
As for its legality in Pennsylvania, one thing to keep in mind that having THC in your system can cause you to be charge with a DUI Marijuana which is a pretty serious charge. And yes you can still be charged even if you have a medical marijuana card. While you may be allowed to use cannabis products, under Pennsylvania Law, you are not allowed to drive with the drug in your system.
