Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro announced that Walmart will pay $3.1 billion to 17 states as a result of an investigation he led against major players in the pharmaceutical industry for their roles in the opioid crisis.
“Too many families have lost loved ones to the opioid epidemic, and too many people have lost years of their lives to addiction,” said AG Josh Shapiro. “My office is determined to hold accountable the companies that created and fueled this crisis – and we’re not done yet.”
Walmart will pay PA $120 million which will be used for recovery and treatment services for those struggling with opioid abuse. Walmart settled to resolve allegations that they contributed to the opioid epidemic through lack of oversight in dispensing opioids at its pharmacies.
